With a share of 7.57 percent by weight, aluminium (Al) is the most common metal in the crust of the earth. In nature, aluminium is never found in pure form, but always bound to oxygen. It is omnipresent in feldspar and mica or in their weathering products. The best-known aluminium mineral is probably Bauxite, it is obtained exclusively by open-pit mining. Bauxite is an earthy sedimentary rock. Bauxite deposits worthy of being mined are found in Brazil, China, Australia, New Guinea, Western Africa and India.

Aluminium can be used for many purposes due to its low density, high conductivity, corrosion resistance and easy workability. The biggest consumer of aluminium is the transport sector where it is used for light-weight cars, commercial vehicles, aircrafts etc. Aluminium is also used in the construction industry (external facing, roof and wall systems), and in mechanical engineering as well as in the packaging industry. Packaging consisting of aluminium are made in many different shapes and bulk material due to its low weight, its impermeability and easy deforming.

Aluminium is offered as extrusion billets for rolling ingots, or as ingots, depending on customers’ requirements. It is also traded as semi-finished products, as alloys or in liquid state.
